How does Lightning Blackjack work? Fee, multipliers, RTP
How does Lightning Blackjack work? A 100% fee on each initial bet, a 2x-25x multiplier for the next round, and the 2021 counts against Evolution's list.
Lightning Blackjack works like standard blackjack with a toll. Evolution adds a 100% Lightning Fee to each initial bet. A winning hand earns a random multiplier, 2x to 25x by Evolution’s list, which is saved for the next round and boosts that payout only if the next hand also wins. The fee buys the multiplier.
This is an evergreen explainer, not news. The game dates to November 2021, when a Wizard of Vegas thread opened on 9 November reported it had just launched. This desk read Evolution’s Lightning Blackjack page, the Wizard of Odds analysis and the Wizard of Vegas thread on 18 October 2026. Evolution’s page, as read, is undated. The other two are frozen in November 2021.
How does Lightning Blackjack work, hand by hand?
Per Evolution: betting closes, every player gets one card face-up, then a second face-up card, while the dealer’s second card goes face-down. An infinite number of players share the same round, so you play the common deal your own way. Your hand value is shown beside your cards.
Then the lightning. Evolution says the multiplier “depends on the winning player’s score”. Win, and the multiplier is saved for your next round, where the payout is increased by it only if you win. Leave the table first and Evolution says it remains available for up to 180 days.
Wizard of Odds lists the base rules as it found them in 2021: eight decks, dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3 to 2, double on any two cards, split once, no doubling after a split, no surrender.
What multipliers can you get in Lightning Blackjack?
Evolution prints seven values: 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x and 25x. Its page, as read, does not print which total earns which. Two 2021 sources wrote down what they saw. Wizard of Odds built its table from 19 hands and left 25x out because it never saw one. One Wizard of Vegas player posted a “typical” set from time at the table.
| Winning total | Wizard of Odds, 19 hands (avg) | WoV player’s typical | Not on Evolution’s list |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 or less | 2 (2.00) | 2x (12 to 17) | none |
| 18 | 2, 3, 4 (3.00) | 3x | 3x, 4x |
| 19 | 3, 4, 5, 6 (4.00) | 4x | 3x, 4x, 6x |
| 20 | 4, 5, 6, 8 (5.05) | 6x | 4x, 6x |
| 21 | 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 (7.16) | 8x | 6x, 12x |
| Blackjack | 6, 8, 12, 15, 20 (10.11) | 9x | 6x, 9x, 12x |
Read the last column carefully. It does not show that Evolution changed its multipliers. A 19-hand sample and one player’s memory are thin evidence, and either could be wrong. It shows only that 3x, 4x, 6x, 9x and 12x do not appear in the set Evolution’s page printed on 18 October 2026. The pattern both sources agree on holds: the higher the winning total, the bigger the multiplier.
Is the Lightning Fee returned?
No. Wizard of Odds says the fee “is never returned”. Evolution’s page says the fee is added to each initial bet and shown in the interface. The arithmetic is blunt: a $10 hand costs $20, and only the $10 main bet is ever paid out. The multiplier has to earn that second $10 back over time.
How a carried multiplier meets a bigger bet, a double or a split
These rules come from Wizard of Odds and the Wizard of Vegas thread, not from the Evolution page text read.
- Bigger bet: the multiplier covers only the stake you won it on. Win it on $10, bet $50 next, and it applies to $10 of the $50.
- Double: the multiplier applies to the entire win.
- Split: it applies to both new hands. Split and win both, and the higher winning total sets the next multiplier.
What is the RTP of Lightning Blackjack?
Evolution’s game page text, as read, prints no RTP. The 99.56% in circulation is measured on the main bet only. Wizard of Odds attributes it to LiveCasinoComparer and works the example: $100 main bet plus $100 fee, expect $199.56 back. The Wizard of Vegas poster says the documentation gives 99.56% under optimal strategy.
Wizard of Odds ran its own numbers. Base game before fee or multipliers: a 0.72% house edge. Using its sampled averages, the average multiplier comes out at 2.609481 and the expected win before the fee at 0.823675 units. Subtract the one-unit fee and the player loses 17.63% of the original bet per hand, or 8.82% of everything staked.
Its own disclaimer matters as much as the figure. The simulation uses conventional basic strategy, which it calls inappropriate for this game, and Wizard of Odds reports that Evolution claims a 0.44% house edge on the original wager under an optimal strategy known, as far as the author knew, only to Evolution. Two published numbers, one strategy known, per that 2021 account, only to Evolution.

Questions readers ask
How does Lightning Blackjack work?
You play ordinary blackjack against a dealer, but every initial bet carries a Lightning Fee equal to it. If your hand wins, Evolution says you receive a random multiplier of 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x or 25x. It does not pay on that hand. It is saved for your next round and raises that payout only if the next hand wins too.
Is the Lightning Fee returned in Lightning Blackjack?
No. Wizard of Odds states that the fee is never returned, win or lose. Evolution’s page says only that a 100% Lightning Fee is added to each initial bet and is visible in the game interface. In practice a $10 hand puts $20 on the table, and only the $10 main bet can be paid out.
What multipliers can you get in Lightning Blackjack?
Evolution’s game page, read on 18 October 2026, lists 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x and 25x, and says the value depends on the winning score. Observations from November 2021 also recorded 3x, 4x, 6x, 9x and 12x, values that are not on that list. None of the pages this desk read prints a complete table by total.
What is the RTP of Lightning Blackjack?
The figure in circulation is 99.56%, measured on the main bet only. Wizard of Odds attributes it to LiveCasinoComparer, and a Wizard of Vegas poster cites the game documentation. Evolution’s game page text read on 18 October 2026 prints no RTP. Wizard of Odds also reports that Evolution claims a 0.44% house edge under an optimal strategy that, as of 2021, it said was known only to Evolution.
